Set-up Reduction/Quick Changeover

Training Session: Set-up Reduction/Quick Changeover is essential when equipment utilization is at full capacity or long changeovers cause large batch sizes and the accumulation of inventory. Participants learn about the basic SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) methodology and simple techniques to reduce changeovers dramatically. This training session includes a simple ‘Die Change’ simulation.

Prerequisite: The Principles of Lean Manufacturing

Kaizen Event: A Set-up Reduction Kaizen event includes the classroom training as identified above without the simulation. In addition the team will actually identify a critical changeover within the operation, videotape the current method, analyze the tape and come up with recommendations for improvement and implement as many solutions as possible during the Kaizen event.
